Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33)

Tuition, housing allowance, and books. 90 days of qualifying active duty after 9/10/2001 is 50% of the full rate. 36 cumulative months (1,095 days) is 100%. In between: 6–17 months 60%, 18–23 months 70%, 24–29 months 80%, 30–35 months 90%. Purple Heart, or 30 continuous days plus a service-connected disability discharge, is also 100%. For Aug. 1, 2026–July 31, 2027, VA lists a private/foreign/non-college-degree tuition cap of $30,908.34 at 100% eligibility and an online-only monthly housing allowance up to $1,198. Transfer rules are separate and time-limited. If you were made to waive Montgomery GI Bill to use Post-9/11, VA may restore extra months (up to 48 combined) under Rudisill/Perkins — they review files; you do not file a special request.
